Taipei, February 1, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — NEXCOM, a leading network equipment supplier, offers proven solutions for 5G fronthaul deployment. The FTA 5180 is a small form factor 1U rackmount product powered by an Intel Xeon D-1700 processor. It features ten high-bandwidth Ethernet ports, PoE++ capability, optional Wi-Fi 6 and 5G support, and can be deployed in different use cases, including 5G O-RAN DU and CU. The FTA 5180 has been enabled for 5G fronthaul through the following tests, and the results are excellent. The readings significantly exceeded the threshold limit, proving that the FTA 5180 can bring high throughput and improved network efficiency to existing network infrastructure.

Fronthaul is an important part of 5G O-RAN network infrastructure. O-RAN considers network timing allocation as the preferred method in fronthaul networks. Synchronization in the RAN is critical to improve network efficiency and meet challenging 5G use cases. Loose synchronization can have a severe negative impact on network KPIs such as low throughput, low attach success rate, and low handover success rate.
The FTA 5180 passed PTP clock skew and line bandwidth performance tests, proving its readiness to be deployed as DU and CU for 5G fronthaul. The 5G downlink performance of FTA 5180 reaches 1.51Gb/s, which is higher than the threshold. The tested IEEE 1588 PTP clock skew requirement is less than 100ns between the PTP hardware clock server and the FTA 5180. The results show that the measured average of the FTA 5180 is significantly better – 29.3ns. This means that the PTP performance of the FTA 5180 is very accurate and the system clocks are synchronized.
